January 27, 2021 – Meet Lynn Williams! Lynn has been volunteering at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County for 4 years. Between answering phones and helping out with the shelter’s Community Clinic, Lynn is a customer service extraordinaire!

Q. What is your role at the shelter?

A. I help answer questions from the public on all different topics and services we offer.  When volunteering in the Community Clinic, I call and give post-operation instructions to the owners of the cats and dogs who were spayed or neutered through the shelter’s low-cat spay and neuter program.

Q. What made you want to volunteer at the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County?

I have always wanted to volunteer with animals but was concerned I would find it too heartbreaking seeing all the animals waiting for their forever homes. It also took me a long time to commit for fear of wanting to bring them all home. But knowing that the shelter does not euthanize for time or space, that helped make it an easier decision for me.

Q. What’s your favorite part of volunteering here?

A. I love working with all the people and animals – everyone is so helpful. I love that I get my animal ‘fix’ every week without taking them home. I love holding kittens and petting all the dogs before they get adopted!

Q. Why are you so passionate about the work we do?

A.  We have to be the voice for all the animals. They are innocent and some of the stories are horrific of conditions they were found in and the neglect they suffered before coming to the shelter. So when I see animals get their forever home, it makes me happy.

*You can read about one such story involving puppies who were found huddled together next to traffic in South Tacoma. Thankfully, they were saved by a kind human, who brought them to the Humane Society for Tacoma & Pierce County for care. Read more about their story.
